香山又叫靜宜園，位於北京海淀區西郊，距市區25公里，全園面積160公頃，最高峰海拔557米，是北京著名的森林公園。1186年，金代皇帝在這裡修建了大永安寺，又稱甘露寺。寺旁建行宮，經歷代擴建，到乾隆十年（1745）定名為靜宜園。 1860年和1900年慘遭搶劫和焚毀，1949年後陸續修復了大部分名勝。主要景點有鬼見愁、玉華山莊、雙清別墅等。

香山紅葉最為著名，每到秋天，漫山遍野的黃櫨樹葉紅得像火焰一樣。這些黃櫨樹是清代乾隆年間栽植的，200年來，逐漸形成擁有94000株的黃櫨樹林區。每年10月中旬到11月上旬是觀賞紅葉的最好季節，紅葉延續時間通常為1個月左右。半山亭、玉華山莊和閬風亭都是看紅葉的好地方。
